1 TimothyA Charge to KeepThe epistle of First Timothy was written by the Apostle Paul sometime between his first and second imprisonments. It was written to Timothy, who served as Paul's representative in the city of Ephesus.
The book has two themes that intertwine. First, Paul offers to Timothy basic instructions regarding the operation of the local church. Under girding this theme is the constant refrain for Timothy to keep the charge that Paul had entrusted to him, and that had been given to Paul by the Lord.
This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies that went before on thee, that thou by them might war a good warfare. 1 Tim 1:18
It is a very practical book, and its instruction and encouragement are much needed in our day.
The basic outline that I have used is as follows:
I. Paul's Charge to Timothy (Chapter 1)
II. Instructions Regarding Public Worship (Chapter 2)
III. Qualifications for Church Officers (Chapter 3)
IV. Dealing with Apostasy (Chapter 4)
V. Our Responsibilities to Various Groups (Chapter 5)
VI. Concluding Instructions (Chapter 6)
You can upload any of the following links, including a more detailed outline, a bibliography and the various messages in the series.
As always, I pray that they may be a blessing and encouragement to any who wish to use them.
In the Savior,
